Wartales Guide to choosing classes for starting characters

Wartales is a tactical strategy RPG game with an open world. In Wartales, players can take control of their squad during the Middle Ages, where they can explore the world, recruit fighters and uncover the secrets of ancient tombs. Heroes need to find or create good equipment, weapons and armor in order to successfully resist gangs of bandits.

There are many interesting points in the Wartales game that the player needs to understand in order to significantly simplify his passage. Such moments may include weapons, armor, food, professions, character customization according to their classes, and other points.

Leveling characters at the start of the game Wartales.

Consider the best builds of pumping classes from possible characters at the beginning of the game. It is at the very beginning, before the game, when we are faced with a difficult choice of scenarios, that we are offered to decide on the initial companions. In total, at the start, you can choose up to 4 characters of the corresponding class. The choice of character classes and their number is limited by the selected scenario. The further gameplay and tactical actions on the field of battle depend on the choice made. If you choose the optimal character classes, you can greatly facilitate the passage of the game.

Possible scenarios and composition of fighters.

  1. Apprentice friends. (We do not take).

In the group at the start there will be: “Swordsman”, “Archer”, “Forester” and “Savage”. Includes bonuses: influence +30 units, experience of companions -30 units. The composition of the gang is normal, but the existing penalty to experience will significantly complicate the leveling of characters. There are 3 melee characters and 1 ranged character in the group. Based on this, you need to choose such classes that can better fight on the battlefield.

  • Character “Swordsman”.

The swordsman is a versatile character that can be in a variety of melee roles. You can assemble a kind of tank or to defeat several opponents at a time, as there are good indicators of strength and physique. Perfectly combines a one-handed sword weapon with a shield, as well as a two-handed sword. It all depends on the direction in which we will pump the swordsman. It should be noted that with the chosen path of pumping, it is desirable to choose a suitable weapon, otherwise the effect may not be noticed.

Swordsman as a tank:

  • Swordsman, as a defender.

For the tank role, the swordsman may be in the Defender class. A one-handed weapon and a shield will do, as well as heavy armor. The defender is able to fight with any opponents on the battlefield and stay in a duel for a long time. Particularly effective when near a melee ally, where the defender’s role is to support the ally’s defense increase.

The Defender has the Inspire ability, which grants allies additional protection for 2 turns. Inspired allies take 30% less damage with additional protection. The ability works when activated on all allies that are in a radius around the defender. Thus, the chances of winning when fighting strong opponents are significantly increased.

  • Swordsman, in the role of “Fighter”.

The Fighter class is almost the same class as the defender, only its role is more focused on increasing damage. The fighter wears heavy armor, this makes it possible to climb into the thick of opponents and fight with 1-2 enemies. It all depends on the chosen further pumping, if pumped correctly. Equipped weapons will also play an important role. With a shield, a fighter stays on the battlefield longer and the effect of abilities is better felt.

At level 2, we get the ability “Crushing Strike”, it costs 1 point of valor to use in combat. Knock Down is an activated ability that deals 10-13 damage to a target enemy and inflicts Imbalance for 2 turns. “Imbalance” reduces the defense to 0 units, that is, the enemy will be open to incoming damage.

  • Character “Archer”.

The archer has three upgrade branches, but, at the initial stage of the game, only the Hunter class is used well and effectively. Since the main ability does not interfere with making attacks on enemies and is easy to use. The tactics are very simple, to be behind the backs of your comrades and throw good damage on the enemies. Close combat is best avoided, as the archer wears light armor and is not capable of long duels. At the same time, his main ability cannot be used. The other available classes are suitable for experienced players and when there is a decent amount of allies.

The main ability of the hunter is pumped at the third level, called “Knockback Shot”. Upon cast, the enemy takes 6 damage and is knocked back 2 meters. Additionally, a slowdown effect is applied, which reduces movement by half. The attack radius is about 8 meters. The ability cannot be used if the hunter is in a duel. It is important not to shoot enemies who favorably lose in a duel to a melee ally.

  • Character “Forester”.

Forester – designed to deal good damage. But, he is weak in close combat, although he himself must fight in close combat. The main tactic of the forester is to run, attack and run away. Depending on the class chosen, it can be an attack support or an ally’s support to get out of a duel. At the initial stage, it is desirable to deal more damage and the Thug class is suitable for this.

A thug is a character that attacks the backs of opponents with the help of an ally. That is, it is a kind of killer. Therefore, the desired battle tactic is to wait for the right moment and be the last one from the squad to make a move. This way it will be easier to select suitable targets for attacking with a special ability. The thug needs tanks in the team that will be in a duel with the enemy, such can be made from the “Warrior” and from the “Savage”.

  • Character “Savage”.

Savage is a support and critical damage where you can be in the front rows and attack several opponents at once. For the front row and successful melee combat, it is desirable to have heavy armor that the Destroyer class can wear. You can choose classes with medium armor, but fighting can be difficult. It is desirable to pump the other two classes on the following characters of the “Savage”.

Considering two allies weak in close combat, this is an archer and a forest ranger, it is advisable to collect one more tank from the Savage. At the same time, the Savage as a tank will probably be one of the best tanks in the game. Another tank is needed to take the attention of enemies and take damage from them. For the role of a tank, the Destroyer class is suitable, which wears heavy armor and feels good in battle with different enemies.

The main ability is pumped at the second level and is called “Weakening Strike”, after activation it deals 9-11 damage to the enemy. Additionally, “Weaken” is applied to the attacked enemy for 3 turns. A weakened enemy deals 50% less damage. This allows you to be in direct contact with the enemy for longer in duel mode.

  1. People accompanying merchants who lost their employers. (Questionable)

The gang will consist of “Swordsman”, “Warrior”, “Spearman” and “Savage”. You can get the following bonuses: crowns +150 units and a penalty to medicine -1 unit. You can take if the medicine is not important to you. In our case, the medicine can be very useful during the passage. The team consists of 4 melee characters, so any class setup can be chosen.

  • Character “Spearman”.

We will pay special attention to the character “Spearman”, who can play the role of an archer. Of the available classes for a spearman character, the Harpooner class is the most suitable for the existing set of characters. The Harpooner can attack enemies with a ranged attack using the Spear Throw ability. This ability allows you to replace the archer and turn the spearman into a multipurpose character.

The main ability is unlocked at the third level, which is called “Spear Throw”. The Spear Throw ability is designed to hit opponents at a distance of 10 meters, which is very attractive, especially for a melee character. At the same time, within a radius of 10 meters, you can hit several opponents standing in a row. Attacking with Spear Throw deals 11 damage to the enemy. Additionally, the Bleeding effect is applied to the first enemy that hits. Bleeding drains 20% of the enemy’s health at the end of their turn.

  1. Deserters running from a tough captain. (The most suitable choice).

Starting companions: “Savage”, 2 “Spearmen” and “Archer”. Gives companion experience +50 units and suspicion penalty +50 units. If you choose, you can significantly speed up the pumping of fighters, which will greatly simplify the passage. Moreover, there are 2 spearmen in the squad, who can deal decent damage in close combat. The fine itself is completely invisible and almost does not affect the passage, if you do not engage in theft.

  • Character “Savage”.

It is advisable to choose the “Destroyer” class and thereby create a tank. This will allow you to better hold back strong enemies and fight longer on the battlefield. Subsequently, the chances of winning increase. Of the available characters, the destroyer must be placed with the archer or spearman in the “Harpooner” class. First, we make a move with the destroyer and accept a duel with a strong opponent.

  • Character “Spearman”.

There are 2 spearmen in the team at once, of which you need to choose the most suitable classes in order to significantly simplify the battle process. We upgrade one spearman to the Harpooner class, another spearman to the Herald class. The Harpooner will allow you to deal early ranged attacks, and the Herald will increase the damage dealt to allies. Together, these classes will allow you to quickly deal with enemies.

  • Character “Archer”.

At the initial stage of the game, with the character “Archer”, the most suitable classes are “Hunter” and “Infantryman”. These classes will fit well into the existing team. The Hunter will complement the Harpooner well, both will be able to land decent early attacks. This will significantly speed up the battles with enemies. And, the infantryman can control the battlefield and hold back the attacking enemies. Of the selected classes, the character has an archer, the tactics of the battle simply change.

  1. Young farmers looking for a better life. (Questionable).

Companions: “Savage”, 2 “Spearmen” and “Archer”. The start will start with a bread bonus of +10 units and a crown penalty of 50 units. This choice will not bring a big priority in the vastness of Wartales, so you should not choose. The only thing you can pay attention to is the fact that bread can be exchanged for influence with refugees. You can pump in the same way as the previous scenario selection.

  1. Robbers escaping from guards. (Questionable).

Fighters in the team: “Savage”, 2 “Forester” and “Archer”. Available bonuses: crowns +100 units and penalty to suspicion +95 units. You can pump it if you don’t engage in theft and you need 2 forester fighters in the squad. On the other hand, a +100 crown priority will not give additional bonuses to the squad. In addition, this is probably the most difficult of the available choices. Since there will be big problems with the guards, who will actively look towards our squad.

This is probably one of the most difficult commands at the beginning of the game. Since there are many characters who wear light and medium armor. Heavy armor can only be worn by a savage, so the heavy armor class will be the most desired. The rest of the characters will have to choose weak opponents and try to keep their distance.

  • Character “Savage”.

Taking into account the available characters at the start of the game, for the savage we pump the Destroyer class. With the help of the main ability “Weakening Strike”, you can deal damage and a weakening effect to the enemy. Weakening lasts 3 turns and allows you to reduce the damage of the enemy by 50%. Thanks to this, you can choose strong enemies with high damage.

  • Character “Forester”.

Of all the teams, this team is the only one that has 2 “Forester” characters at its disposal. From a certain point of view, you can deal decent damage. But if there are few characters with good armor, then playing the junglers can be difficult. Therefore, you will have to get out and, in most cases, on the battlefield, act extremely tactically.

We upgrade one forest ranger to the “Thug” class in order to more effectively help the savage tank, in the destroyer class. You will have to select the most suitable places, with the possibility of a minimum number of enemies next to the tank. We pump the second Forester with the Poisoner class, this will allow you to hit several enemies and keep your distance.
