Smalland Resource Tier 1 Guide or Wooden Era

Smalland: Survive the Wilds is a game about small human beings in a dangerous way of insects. Players can survive in different weather conditions, fight against insects, build their own house and create things. There are a decent amount of items in the Smalland game, from clothes to decor elements in the house. As you progress, you will have to achieve technological perfection gradually. Smalland was created by the developers at Merge Games, who managed to provide players with a very impressive product.

Let’s talk about important resources at the beginning of the game. Namely: wood, fiber, resin, edible mushroom, poisonous mushroom, honeycomb, seeds, nectar, petals, bottle cap, screws, insect egg, insect fat, insect lymph, grasshopper leg. All of the above resources will make it easier to pass and reach a new development milestone. To find special types of resources, you will need to make a special tool that is assembled from insects. Crafted special tools and collected resources will allow you to craft the best sets of armor and weapons.

In the Smalland game, resources are of great importance in character development and achievement in technological development. All resources can be divided into several types: collected resources (these are resources lying on the ground), natural resources (extracted from plants, resources from insects (can be obtained by defeating an insect) and produced resources. At the same time, food and medicine can be made from the collected resources , weapons, armor, build buildings and machines.

1 resource level. Wooden era, in the game Smalland.

The first level of resources includes all resources that can be collected with bare hands. These resources include: fiber, wood, resin, honeycomb, blackberries and edible mushrooms. With the help of these resources, you can make a tool with your hands: an ax, a builder’s hammer, a torch, a fire. Also, early items that are made at the Workbench can be attributed to the first level. Later harvestable resources include caps and screws, which are also assembled by hand. Caps and screws will be needed to craft workbenches and weapons later in the game.

Workbench level 1, “Workbench”, in the game Smalland.

On the workbench, you can produce tools and weapons from different resources. Which include “Fiber” and “Wood”. In later levels and eras of the game, other more complex resources are added to the standard resources, “Fiber” and “Wood”. Thanks to complex resources, it will be possible to produce advanced weapons in the Workbench. For example, “Poisoned Mace”, where the recipe contains “Insect Poison Gland”.

Armor level 1, in the game Smalland.

From level 1 resources, you can produce a set of armor for the character “Ern”, which is located almost immediately after leaving the hole. It can craft 2 sets of clothes, Stitched Clothes and Light Clothes. Both sets of armor are produced for the Fiber resource. They differ in that “Stitched Clothes” gives protection from the cold and protection from damage. And “Light Clothes” increases the speed of movement and protection against damage. It is advisable to produce the Stitched Clothes armor set, as it provides more useful functions and significantly increases the character’s survivability.

Tools at level 1, in the game Smalland.

  • Wooden hatchet.

With a wooden ax you can collect food resources. Such as an edible mushroom that is extracted from mushrooms. To prepare ready-made food from mushrooms, you must first build a fire and select the desired type of cooked food. You can also get resources from a poisonous mushroom, but at the initial stage of the game, a poisonous mushroom is not needed.

  • Construction hammer.

The construction hammer is designed for the construction of structures and machines. Building structures include foundations, walls, roofs, bonfires and other elements associated with construction. Workbenches include all built things that can be used to craft other items, such as a workbench, a cauldron, and others.

  • Torch.

The torch is designed to illuminate the area around the hero at night. A torch is assembled using branches and resin. It should be noted that in fact the torch does not illuminate the area well and in most cases you have to use the “Character Sense” function. With the help of “Character Sense” you can see the highlighted things and see the surrounding area much better at night than with a torch in your hands.

Weapon level 1, in the game Smalland.

  • Wooden sword.

Tier 1 weapons include the Wooden Sword, which is crafted at the Workbench for Wood and Fiber. With the Wooden Sword weapon, you can easily fight ants and Ant Bull. Including the Black Pine Barbel insect, which will allow you to go to the next level of development after defeating it. Since you can get the resource “Chitin” from it.

  • Wooden club.

The Wooden Club is a Tier 1 weapon crafted by hand from the Wood resource. Such weapons can hit ants, butterflies, ladybugs and fireflies. Since the damage is only 6 – 8 units and hits with crushing attacks. For production, only 7 units of wood are required.

  • Simple bow.

A simple bow is a ranged weapon that allows you to hit opponents from a safe distance. After the shot is fired, the hostile insect will immediately run towards you and start attacking. A simple bow weapon allows you to land the first few safe attacks, and then you need to switch to a suitable melee weapon. A simple bow can be equipped with several types of arrows that can deal increased damage. The standard arrow at level 1 is a “Wooden Arrow”.

Tool for moving to level 2, in the game Smalland.

To start extracting resources that belong to level 2, you will have to make a special tool. The transitional tool includes the “Bull Ant Jaw Pick”, which makes it possible to extract the “Stone” resource. Bull Ant Jaw Pick will require Fiber, Wood, and Bull Ant Jaws to produce. To get the Bull Ant Jaws resource, you first have to fight the Bull Ant, which can be found in the area of the Kalev character.

Location of level 1 resources and their use:

  • Wood and fiber.

For level 1, these resources are mined manually without the use of tools. They are literally under your feet, in almost all parts of the map. The largest amount of wood to meet in the initial location. To pick them up, you just need to approach and interact by pressing the “F” button. You can get wood and fiber resources at a later level using a tool by cutting down plants.

Fiber is one of the most commonly used resources, as it is found in many recipes. At the initial stage of the game, level 1, you can produce from fiber: hand-assembled tools, tools at the Workbench, weapons produced at the Workbench. This includes survival aids such as a simple bandage and “Medical Bandage” that use fiber.

  • Resin.

The resin is intended for construction purposes, the production of weapons and tools. During the journey, it is important to have at least one slot filled with resin. It may happen that the weather conditions change and it becomes cold. The character during this period of time will have to seek shelter from the cold and rain. To keep warm and survive, you need to build a temporary shelter and put up a “Bonfire”. Resin can be collected from tree roots, mostly found in the area of large trees.

  • Edible mushroom.

Edible mushroom is obtained from edible mushrooms, using the “wooden ax” tool. This is the first resource that will help the character survive and satisfy his hunger. You can carry it raw, but it is advisable to cook it on the Bonfire loom. Restores 30 units of food requirement, with a full scale of satiety can restore health points. Mushrooms can be found in almost every corner of the map, but there are places with the most mushrooms. The largest number of mushrooms is located in the right part from the Elder towards Drustan.

  • Poison mushroom.

The poisonous mushroom will be needed at later levels, it is collected from mushrooms similar to toadstools. You can find it far from the “Main Trees”, they can be found not far from the “Edible Mushrooms”. It is not used anywhere at the initial levels, but you can give it to the character to eat, after which he will receive poisoning. To cure a character from poisoning after eating the “Poisonous Mushroom” you need to use the “Bandage”. At later levels, the “Poisonous Mushroom” ingredient is used to prepare other dishes in the “Apothecary’s Table” workbench.

  • Honeycombs with honey.

Honeycombs with honey are intended for the preparation of medicine and the production of food. For example, you can produce a “Healing Bandage” at the “Workbench”. “Healing plaster” will heal wounds and restore health points of the character, after the battle with a hostile insect. You can restore 3 units per second, for 20 seconds. One Healing Plaster costs 1 Honeycomb and 1 Fiber.

  • Seeds.

Seeds – can be obtained from the plants “Poppy” and “Chaff”. Several types of resources, seeds, petals and nectar fall out of the “Poppy”. Mostly seeds fall out of the Chaff plant, in an amount of several pieces. If there is a need for a large number of seeds, then the Chaff plant is the most suitable for their production. In character development, seeds are a very important resource that comes in handy to create a tool by processing with another resource, wood.

First, on the machine “Stone-cutting machine” we process the resource “Seeds” into “Seed Oil”. Therefore, “Seeds belong to the resources of the second level. After obtaining the Seed Oil resource, you can craft other resources. For example, “Workable Wood”, which is present as an ingredient in all tools from level 2 in the “Stone Carving Machine” workbench.

The Seed Oil resource is also present in recipes for other things that are produced in the Cauldron and Apothecary’s Table. The Cauldron Workbench can craft Pet Taming Items, Grasshopper Treats, Gecko Treats, and Wolf Spider Treats. And in the “Apothecary’s Table” with the help of “Seed Oil” we produce auxiliary items for survival. For example, such as “Antidote”, “Health Elixir”, “Endurance Tonic” and other items.

  • “Nectar” and “Petals”.

The resources “Nectar” and “Petals” are obtained from the “Poppy” plant, which is chopped using the “Wooden Hatchet” tool. The poppy grows all over the map, but can mostly be found in the “Main Trees” area. Also in a small radius from the characters Drustan, the Elder and Skadi. Usually poppy grows several plants in the nearest radius, but you can find about 2-3 plants growing nearby.

Nectar and petals are secondary and auxiliary resources that are present in recipes for cooking. For example, on the “Bonfire” machine, you can cook “Fairy Omelet”, on the workbench “Ladybug Travel Kit”. With the help of the “Ladybug Travel Kit” item, you can tame the “Ladybug” pet and significantly speed up the construction of a house.

At later levels, in the “Cauldron” workbench, “Nectar” can be used to make recipes “Forest Delight” and “Treat for Grasshopper”. “Nectar” and “Petals” are also used in the workbench “Apothecary’s Table”, where the “Elixir of Health”, “Great Stamina Tonic” and “Lesser Elixir of Health” are prepared. As a result, “Nectar” and “Petals” are resources intended for the survival of the character.

  • Bottle cap and screws.

The “Bottle Cap” and “Screw” resources are human-made resources and not natural resources. Thanks to these resources, it is fashionable to create a stone-cutting machine, where things of 2 and 3 levels are produced. At the initial levels, “Bottle Cap” and “Screw” are only needed to create the stone carving machine. In the future, these resources will allow the production of iron items related to the Iron Age.

When traveling and collecting resources, tools wear out and can only be repaired in the machine where such a tool was created. Therefore, it will not be superfluous to carry around a few pieces of “Bottle Cap” and “Screw” or create a few necessary tools to collect certain resources.

Caps and Screws Extraction Tip:

It should be noted that covers and screws are quite rare types of resources that are far from each other. You will have to run halfway through the map to collect just a few pieces. And for this path you will have to fight with a large number of insects. Even with the complete collection of all available covers and screws, it will not be enough to collect the necessary types of iron weapons.

Therefore, the only sure way to get the right amount of caps and screws resources is to exit the game after collecting everything possible. It is advisable to first run through the maps and collect all the resources of caps and screws, come to your main base and unload trophies into chests. After that, save, go to bed and exit the game. After a while, you can again enter the game and go to collect resources “Caps” and “Screws”. And this will have to be done several times to produce an iron weapon.

  – Bottle caps.

“Bottle caps” can be found along the banks, near rivers and lakes, in these places the flow of the river brings bottles with caps. As a rule, 1 cover per place is generated. This is one of the rarest types of resources, as several can be found throughout the map. At the same time, in the later stages of the game, when the Iron Age begins, caps will be very important in the production of things.

– Screws.

“Screws” are located in different parts of the map, in most cases, in places where there are objects of a large person. For example, near the camera, in the area of benches, next to the grill, in the starting location near the river. In one place there can be from 1 – 3 pieces of screws. Screws as well as “Bottle Caps” will be very important during the “Iron Age”. So, start stocking up from the beginning of the game.

Resources from insects level 1, in the game Smalland.

Insects of the first level include: “ants” in the first location, “ladybugs”, “butterflies” and “grasshopper”. The most powerful and dangerous insect listed is the “grasshopper”. Since he has the most health and stronger attacks.

  • Insect egg, Insect fat, Insect lymph.

These are secondary resources that are an additional ingredient for cooking different types of dishes. The resources “Insect Egg”, “Insect Fat”, “Insect Lymph” are used in the “Boiler” and “Bonfire” machines. With the help of the listed resources, you can cook dishes from the second level. Since you will need to extract other resources using the tool. At the second level, you can cook the food “Bug Sausage”, with the ingredient “Bug Heart”.

  • Leg of a grasshopper.

The Grasshopper Leg is obtained by defeating the Grasshopper. From a grasshopper’s leg, you can cook a dish on a fire, “Grilled grasshopper’s legs. Which will restore 30 satiety and prevent exhaustion for 180 seconds. For cooking, you need 2 pieces of grasshopper legs. At a later level, already from the second level 2, it will be possible to produce a weapon in a workbench, “Grasshopper Leg Sickle”. The Grasshopper Leg Sickle weapon deals 7 to 12 slashing damage and can hit multiple nearby enemies during the attack.
