Hello, dear friends! We present to you a review of the incredibly cool game Phantom Blade Zero, inspired by Chinese mythology. The game offers maximum mobility and intense, action-packed battles. You’ll need to focus on both gameplay and character control. The main bosses are quite active and powerful.
Phantom Blade Zero is an action-RPG with hack-and-slash elements. Developers from the Chinese studio S-GAME worked on the game. The developers themselves describe the game as a “kung fu punk” game, as traditional Chinese martial arts are intricately intertwined with steampunk. Steam engines, mechanical devices, and even body modifications are featured. Phantom Blade Zero is scheduled for release on October 29, 2026.
Actor and martial artist Donnie Yen contributed to the fight choreography, serving as creative consultant and providing the voice of Mo Yuan (the protagonist’s father). The game will be available on desktop and Sony PlayStation.
Plot of Phantom Blade Zero.
The player takes control of Soul, an elite assassin serving the organization “The Order.” He is accused of murdering the Order’s patriarch. After a hunt and a duel with his sworn brother, Soul is mortally wounded, but a mystical healer brings him back to life. The protagonist is given a key condition: he has only 66 days to complete his tasks. During this time, he must uncover a conspiracy, find a cure, and protect what he believes in.

Environment and Exploration in Phantom Blade Zero.
The world of Phantom Blade Zero is called Wulin. It is not a classic open world, but it is not a strictly linear corridor either. The player can choose their own path, from one location to the next. The world is semi-open, with eight interconnected locations. Each location is designed in the style of traditional Chinese painting, or Guohua. With good graphics on your computer, the view is simply breathtaking.
As you progress, you can discover secret areas with hidden enemies and side quests. Of course, the developers haven’t forgotten about secret spots with treasures and clues. Players can quickly move from one location to another if they’ve already been explored. To move to another location, they must interact with special bells.
Combat system and gameplay in Phantom Blade Zero.
The developers at S-GAME studio have worked hard and emphasized active and dynamic battles, where you need to regularly use combination attacks. For maximum effect and the best results, you need to string together attacks into long chains. The better the combo, the more spectacular the attack on your enemies and the more damage you can inflict. During battle, you can change weapons and fully replenish your Sha-Chi meter.
In addition to offensive actions, the character can use defensive stances. Several types of defense are available: block, parry, dodge, and special moves.
- Blocking can delay enemy attacks, but it consumes your Sha-Chi meter when used.
- Parrying allows you to block an enemy attack, depriving them of some Sha-Chi points. The character also gains some resources.
- Dodging allows you to avoid damage and move to another position. In many cases, this will allow you to buy time and choose the appropriate strategy. Dodging will typically be used frequently to avoid severe damage.
During battle, hints will appear to help you understand how to proceed. Blue flashes indicate that you can parry an attack and automatically perform a “ghost step.” This can allow you to get behind an enemy to deal critical damage. There are also hints marked in red; these attacks cannot be blocked or parried. Attacks marked in red can only be dodged. Mobility will be very useful in combat. It’s important to combine the hero’s position on the ground and in the air. You can evade obstacles to find a suitable attack from behind. You can also attack in the air and combine them with ground attacks. It’s important to actively use fast movement to seize the right moment. The developers haven’t forgotten about spectacular finishing moves.
Difficulty levels in Phantom Blade Zero.
The game features a difficulty system suitable for every player, from beginner to expert. Most interestingly, the developers have integrated artificial intelligence into the enemy’s mechanics. By selecting the appropriate difficulty level, enemies will study the player’s actions and attack their weak points.

There are three difficulty levels:
- Wanderer – This is an easy difficulty level where you can calmly progress through the game and enjoy the story. Of course, you will encounter strong enemies, and even at this difficulty level, you can lose. Enemies will be slightly weaker, slightly slower in their actions, and less aggressive in their attacks. However, you will still need to use dodges and parries to avoid defeat.
- Hellwalker – This is an intermediate difficulty level, where enemies are stronger, more aggressive, and more active. However, the “Hellwalker” difficulty level equips enemies with artificial intelligence. In this mode, they will adapt to the player and attack their weak points. For missing enemies, the hero will be punished with precise attacks from opponents.
- 66 Days – a very interesting difficulty level. It combines the “Wandering Hell” difficulty with a limited number of lives. Enemies are also strong, agile, fast, and AI-controlled. If the hero dies, one life is removed from the story timer. When the timer runs out, the game ends.
About weapons in Phantom Blade Zero.
The player has several types of weapons, a total of about 30 primary weapons and about 25 secondary weapons. Each weapon has its own unique properties that influence tactics and combat with opponents. Some weapons are also suited for specific opponents. For example, “heavy fists” can deal with well-armored opponents, while a regular blade won’t penetrate strong defense.
